BSA SQUARE KNOT AWARDS AND RIBBON BARS
Square knots awards which many scouters including the legendary Mike Walton referred to as "fruit salad". It is similar to the military ribbon bars. It gives a Scouter or wearer to highlight or perhaps showoff the achievements he attained in his/her scouting career. Each knot represent a certain level of commitment, each represent either a rank, a training needed to earn it, or simply by being nominated and bestowed upon the said recognition. BSA Knots has been evolved from the military style bars from the 30s till the introduction of the square knots in the 40s. As time goes by, the Square Knots has evolved, some new ones introduced, some were consolidated with other square knots to form a new one and some were simply just retired by the BSA for good.
